Great Migrations

Mountain goats as they come into the Walton area of Glacier National Park, MT., to feed on salt and other minerals found in various "goat licks" here. These animals migrate vertically (downward) to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, where soils and rocks contain the salts they need, mostly under bridges and cuts in the river bank where the top soil has been washed away.
