| At a captive-breeding center, camouflage clothing called ghost costumes keep young eagles from imprinting on humans and gives them a better chance of surviving in the wild. With legal protection and the elimination of the pesticide DDT from the environment, the species managed to make a comeback. This photograph was taken at the Sutton Avian Research Center in Bartlesville, which played a crucial role in the recovery of the Southern bald eagle.
