A red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus) named Sir Francis Bacon at the Cincinnati Zoo. This was a hand-raised and very friendly program animal. He was hungry the entire time and posed easily as long as the yams didn’t run out.

A critically endangered (IUCN) and federally endangered Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) at the Cincinnati Zoo. Suci is one of only two in the United States and one of only 10 in captivity worldwide. Poaching is rampant for this species and fewer than 200 exist now in the wild. This animal was born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 2007. It’s hoped that she can be bred and help the species cling to survival. The Sumatran rhino is considered one of the rarest mammals in the world.
